This is a great light for everyday use in building inspections/engineering due to it's great battery life and brightness. The shoulder strap provides convenient and comfortable carrying and use of light. The weight is minimal for a lantern comparable to a Magcharger or 3d-cell maglight. I have had the light on high-power for several hours at a time without discernible dimming(expected battery life of three hours on high power). the expected battery life on low power is seven hours. I bought this to supplement my Streamlight Ultra Stinger because of its limited burn time of approximately 1 hour (with a brand-new battery).

The Fire Vulcan LED has a very focused and bright central spotlight that is approximately 6 inch diameter at 10 feet and 12 to 18 inches at 30 feet. I believe this was intended forcutting through smoke during firefighting operations. We in the fire service have come a long way in personal lighting solutions in the last twenty years. We used to have heavy Sears� Diehard lamps with lantern batteries and an old seat belt for a strap. Today with the Fire Vulcan LED we have "the brightest rechargeable LED lantern in its class" with a weight of only 1.85 lbs.
I really like the snap-in charging base that can be connected to the A/C power supply or the 12 volt DC cigarette lighter adapter. I have an extra accessory outlet in the rear cargo area of my SUV and keep this flashlight connected in the car and ready to use at all times.
